SACF Flora Walk – May 2022

Ever curious about the plants you encounter during your hike at the Shah Alam Community Forest? 

Are they poisonous, medicinal, edible? Come on a flora walk with passionate botanist, Dr Khadijah Weber. Learn fascinating facts about the common plant species found at SACF, particularly those from the Melastomatacae family. 

Dr. Hjh. Siti Khadijah Rambe Weber did her first Masters at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and her second Masters and PhD at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore on the taxonomy of Aspleniaceae. 

The iconic species for the family is Asplenium nidus which is localled called Pakis Sarang Burung. Dr. Khadijah is currently the director of Arboribus Databases Sdn. Bhd., a company specializing in tree naming and mapping.

  • Time: 8.00am – 11.30am
  • Venue: Shah Alam Community Forest

Etiquette, what to bring, and what to expect?

  • Wear comfortable clothes and shoes but nothing needed for hardcore hiking. No sandals/slippers.
  • Bring sufficient water (minimum 500ml) as well as a snack/energy bar if you think you may need it.
  • Mosquito repellent. We recommend wearing loose long pants and a long sleeve top.
  • Bring a raincoat or small umbrella in case it rains.
  • Rain is something we cannot control but the walk will only be cancelled in case of heavy rain.
