Our Shah Alam Community Forest (SACF) was featured in Malaysia’s local Mandarin daily, Sin Chew Jit Poh on 26th August 2020.
The article highlighted that our SACF has been threatened by a development of a road which will cut through the forest.
Once the developers start construction on the road next year, it will change the forest. According to the SACF society, there is about 430 acres under the Bukit Cerakah that connected the dams, and hosts animals on the edge of extinction especially the tapir.
Also, there is a lake inside the forest which has been going viral in social media, showing the appreciation the community has for a natural place to unwind. However, the road construction will cut through this lake, this scenery may not exist after that.
Unfortunately, the Selangor state government is unable to declare this 430 acres as a forest reserve, as 300 acres belongs to a property developer. Once deforestation begins, the lake, flora and faunas will cease to exist.
In celebrating the theme of this year’s Merdeka – ‘Care Malaysia’, Sin Chew is sharing photos of the forest to spread awareness and awake more people into protecting and caring for the forest. SACF society hopes that more people will have the awareness of environmental protection and take actions to protect this land.
